5 Tips For Stress-Free Moving

By: Heather @ 9:18 pm

5 Tips For Stress-Free MovingLet’s admit it: moving to a new place is a tedious and time-consuming task that can become overwhelming if you don’t plan ahead and are not organized. We’ve gathered five useful tips to make your moving experience more enjoyable and hassle-free.

1- Plan In Advance

The earlier you plan, the more money, time and stress you’ll save yourself. Nothing makes your moving more unpleasant than running out of time. Prepare checklists of everything you need to accomplish, get your boxes from a local store or a moving company, and start pre-packing the things you don’t use on a daily basis, such as seasonal clothing.

2- Team Up!

Play it safe by hiring an experienced crew to assist you with the moving. You’ve already done the “messy” part, leave the rest to the professionals. They will move your belongings at a fraction of the time and, most importantly, without damaging your furniture and appliances.

3- Make The Necessary Changes

It may seem trivial, but most people forget to make the necessary address changes. Call your bank, insurance, driver’s license, phone company, etc. before you move or right after. By doing so, you ‘ll save time by receiving your mail at your new address.

4- Pack Efficiently

Packing strategically is the key to ensuring a smooth move. Avoid excess clutter and leave out unnecessary belongings. If you haven’t used them in the past, chances are you won’t in the future. Make sure you label your boxes appropriately so that your moving crew can strategically place the boxes where they belong in your new home. Plus, it saves you the trouble of opening every box looking for one particular item. Keep your clothes on hangers and wrap them in a plastic bag. Better yet, many moving companies will rent out “wardrobes” for you to pack your clothes effortlessly.

5- Have Fun

The most important thing to remember is to relax and have fun. You’re embarking on an exciting new journey, so make the most out of it. Following these tips should give you no reason to worry. Order food, have friends over, and enjoy your moving day! It will be over before you know it.

Downsizing for seniors

Guest blogger, Kathleen Murphy of Organizing Options

Are you a senior? Is the prospect of downsizing and moving from a home you’ve lived in for 30 plus years a daunting prospect that’s holding you back from your next transition? It doesn’t have to, trust me…

I know what a comfort it can be to be live with your well-loved possessions that surround you in your home. A collection of knick knacks, a well-used set of mixing bowls, the display cabinets… you name it! In each room, a quick glance will highlight our favorite things… and trigger the stories behind them… not to mention the relationships.

Often it is this emotional tug of our “stuff” that can holds seniors back on moving to the next step, the new location.

Downsizing: Closing one door and opening another doesn’t have to be a downer

By: Heather @ 12:04 am

You’re moving into a smaller place. You’ve decided to downsize and start fresh elsewhere. Facing a move (whether large or small) often make the occupants stressed by the idea of leaving their family home of many years and starting a new phase of their lives elsewhere. Just because you have decided that you want to downsize doesn’t mean you need to carry the extra weight of your old home on your shoulders. In fact, studies have shown that downsizing can create several investment opportunities and have a positive effect on your lifestyle. For one, smaller place, smaller expenses (taxes, heating, maintenance…etc). If the change is at first to hard to handle, you could always rent out your home and settle into your new place. With all this being said, as human beings living a materialistic world, we get attached to certain items. However, when these certain items cannot all fit into your new dwelling, what is there to do? You still want to keep these items because of how much they mean to you, but there physically isn’t space. Maybe you want to keep them around to give to your children or use at another time.
