Winter Driving Safety

By: Montreal Movers @ 11:58 am

Today Darren Boucher, Operations Manager for North American Van Lines posted some important winter driving tips to all North American Drivers. Safety is an important concern for us as we are operating large trucks on the road. Following these important safety reminders will reduce accidents in the wintertime for both commercial drivers as well as everyone on the road:

  • Maintain your vehicle: inspection of tire treads and proper inflation is critical for traction and steering control in bad weather;
  • Beware of icy conditions as driving “too fast for the conditions” is a common cause of accidents;
  • Use headlights at all times to increase visibility; and
  • Increase your distance.

We wish everyone a safe winter driving season!

Safe Summer Driving

By: Montreal Movers @ 11:55 am

Westmount Moving and North American Van Lines Promotes Safe Driving

While wintertime is seen as the most dangerous time to be on the roads, along with the heat, summertime brings driving hazards as well. At Westmount Moving, we promote safe driving to ensure a safe and successful summer. All of our drivers have been provided with these simple tips and reminders.

These summer driving tips are important for all of us to keep in mind as we are on the road.

  • Watch for children. With school out for the summer time, extra caution must be used in residential areas and around playgrounds. When children are playing, their attention is not on safety and they may unexpectedly dart into traffic.
  • Obey all traffic laws. Always stay within the speed limit and maintain a safe following distance. The faster you drive and the closer you follow, the more difficult it will be to avoid an incident ahead.
  • Watch for tourists. Tourists present a roadway hazard because they don’t always know how to get where they are going. Watch for motorists who are distracted or reading maps and be prepared for sudden stops or last-minute course changes.
  • Obey all traffic laws. Always stay within the speed limit and maintain a safe following distance. The faster you drive and the closer you follow, the more difficult it will be to avoid an incident ahead.
  • Avoid distractions. Inattentive driving plays a significant role in many accidents. Safe driving demands full attention so avoid distractions while driving such as eating, reading and the use of cell phones or other electronic devices.
  • Wear seat belts. Seat belts save lives and should be worn even on short trips.
  • Exercise extra caution in Work Zones. Slow down, increase your following distance and stay alert.
  • Plan your trip and allow extra time. Leave early and expect delays so you can reach your destination on time.
  • Be patient. Most importantly, be courteous, patient and expect the unexpected!

Westmount Moving Site Visits

By: Montreal Movers @ 11:33 am

As part of Westmount Moving’s B.E.S.T. Move Quality Program we conduct site visits of moves in progress. These site visits are conducted on a random basis by key members of the quality team – with the majority of inspections conducted by Florence Schaap, our Director of Quality. The purpose of the visits is to ensure that the quality guidelines we have established are being followed by our crews. The site visits are a great way to see moves in progress, identify areas where problems can arise and find solutions. A site inspection will cover the following:

  • The cleanliness of the truck and whether the truck is amply equipped;
  • Whether the home has been properly protected to minimize the likelihood of dmage, with floor and bannister protection and door jambs;
  • Whether the crew was in full uniform and have a professional appearance and good hygeine;
  • Whether the move in process is being conducted to high standards; and
  • The overall satisfaction of the customer with the crew and how the move is being handled.

We strongly believe that seeing moves in progess is the best way to ensure that the promises we make to our customers regarding quality are being kept on each and every move!
