Fundraising for Children of Fallen Soldiers

By: Montreal Movers @ 2:31 pm

A message from Joe Gagnon

Over the years I have helped organize or participate in a number of different charitable events. Recently, I was approached by a colleague to get involved in something that I felt was not only very unique but very important. We have all watched “The National” on CBC or “Coaches Corner” on Hockey Night in Canada where we all too often would see the pictures of young men and women who have lost their lives in the war in Afghanistan. Whether we agree with the mission or not, we can all agree that it is horrible to see these young lives cut so short. Many of these soldiers are in their 20s and 30s and leave behind very young children,  of which many of them are under the age of 10.

A small group of friends from North American Van Lines have decided to team up and organize a once in a lifetime athletic challenge to help the children of these soldiers. 100% of the proceeds raised in this event will go to Canada Company, a nonprofit organization that sets up post secondary scholarship funds for the children of fallen soldiers.

We will be embarking on a 7 day journey starting in Toronto and finishing in Montreal starting on September 10th. We will do this by biking and running an average of 85km per day. Every day will end in a community party and will feature great food and local entertainment. I encourage anyone who is interested in participating in any way to support this important cause to contact me and I will be more than happy to provide additional details.

Advice for Consumers

By: Montreal Movers @ 8:49 pm

On Monday May 10th, Joe Gagnon, President of Westmount Moving, was interviewed by Tim Parent on the CJAD morning show regarding Industry Canada’s proposal to tighten rules for moving companies due to complaints from consumers ripped off by crooked operators.

Joe gave some advice to anyone choosing a mover to first ensure the mover is accredited with an organization such as the Better Business Bureau or the Canadian Association of Movers.

Another simple way to see if the mover has been around a while is to look in the Yellow Pages. If a mover doesn’t have an address and is operating from a cell phone – that is a good indication that they are a “fly by night” operation!

Hear a clip from the interview:

What to look for when hiring movers

Westmount Moving Pledges to Deliver on its Promises

By: Montreal Movers @ 7:21 pm

Unfortunately, the moving industry does not have any significant barriers to entry. Consequently, there are far too many unprofessional movers that do a poor job and leave clients in the lurch.

It is a constant battle for professional and reputable companies to prove to clients that doing business with fly by night operators might appear cheaper but can be far more costly in the long run and cause a lot of headaches.

This article is a great example of how customers suffer in the hands of a bad mover. Researching the moving company with the BBB and selecting a mover that is a member in good standing with the Canadian Association of Movers (CAM) is a good way to ensure that your mover will deliver on its promises.
