Montreal duo battle it out on CBC’s Battle of the Blades

Montreal duo battle it out on CBC's Battle of the BladesMathieu Dandenault and Marie-France Dubreuil. Who are they and why are their names everywhere? Let’s start with Mathieu. This Sherbrooke native is a three time Stanley Cup Champion (1997, 1998, 2002) and also grasped the 2003 World Championship. Drafted in 1994 to play for the Detroit Red Wings, he was with them when they broke the 1995-1996 record and had 62 wins! (This remains un-broken). Aside from winning three Stanley cups during his hockey career, he also assisted Team Canada to win gold in Helsinki at the World Hockey Championships. His last NHL team that he played with was the Montreal Canadiens and he later retired in 2010.

Let’s take a look at Marie-France Dubreuil. This talented lady was a two time silver medalist at the World Ice Dance Competition in 2006 and 2007, five time Canadian Ice Dance Champion (2000, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007) as well as a two time Olympian in 2002 and 2006. This Montreal native became famous when her and her now husband Patrice Lauzon team up in 1995 and became extremely well know for great technique and presentation that was simply astonishing. In 2008 they turned professional and started to tour with Stars on Ice. They now own a skating school in Montreal and develop young ice dancers for the Quebec Skating Federation.

Now that you know a little bit about these two professional athletes, what do they have to with each other and why are they so popular these days? You see, Mathieu and Marie-France are teaming up as skating partners in the Canadian figure skating reality show called Battle of the Blades. To differentiate itself from other reality show’s alike, the show’s premise is that Battle of the Blades brings two very different styles of skaters together: hockey players are paired with prominent figure skaters to perform figure skating routines. They are scored as one would be scored at an official skating competition. Slowly but surely, couples are eliminated and the winning couple receives money to donate to the charity of their choice. For Mathieu, his charity is the Montreal Canadien’s Children Foundation and for Marie-France, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. This pair is bound to stand out and be noticed. Mathieu has speed and versatility on his side and Marie-France is back for a third season of Battle of the Blades. Go luck!

Register and vote for Marie-France Dubreuil and Mathieu Dandenault pair.
