MONTREAL — Hockey-playing employees and friends of Westmount Moving laced up against the CHOM/CJAD/Virgin 96 Mighty Yuks Hockey Club in a March 10 charity game at the Lower Canada College arena in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce to raise funds for the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Soon after the puck had dropped, more than 120 Westmount Moving friends and family members entered the arena, flash mob style.

“The main goal of this surprise was to raise awareness and collect donations for the children’s hospital, and we did,” as Audrey Gilbert of Westmount Moving wrote to Applause. “A total of $4,074.65 was raised through this flash mob in one day!”

The money was raised a few ways: Each hockey player was responsible for raising a minimum of $125, people paid $5 apiece to be part of the flash mob and donations were collected at the arena. A 50/50 draw raised $264, which meant $132 for the foundation.

The Mighty Yuks Hockey Club is in its 20th season of playing hockey and giving back to the community. Westmount Moving has been part of the event for a decade.
